Bunny Hutches

Rabbit Hutch and Run

Do you have a large area to setup an optimally sized home for your pet rabbit? Then you may want to look into getting a rabbit hutch with a built in rabbit run to give your pet all the room that they need to live and play. These setups are larger than just a hutch, and are usually used outdoors, on patios, or in a garage. These larger hutches may look like a complex task to assemble due to their size, but many of the models boast setup times of just minutes and a low number of steps to complete. A quality rabbit hutch and run will protect your pet from wind, sun, rain, and snow, as well as having a sturdy wire construction to keep unwanted animals away.

Some rabbit hutch and runs will come as two separate pieces: the main hutch, and a separate run that fits over the entrance to the hutch. These combine to form a single unit. The Ware HD Chick-N-Rabbit Pen is such an example. These types of hutches may be preferable to a single unit with the run built into the hutch if you ever desire to reuse the hutch in the future without the run attached. The hutch is constructed with outdoor grade plywood and a shingled roof to protect from the elements. This is a dual purpose hutch that is designed for both rabbits and chickens.

Another popular hutch and run design is a townhouse type design with multiple stories. The Eco-Flex Huntington Townhouse 2 Story Rabbit Hutch is such a design, which may be optimal for anyone who wishes to make the most use of space. The design has an open run at the bottom, with a ramp leading up to the hutch above it. This model is assembled using a no tools required design that uses special connectors, and can be repainted in the future if desired, since it is constructed of natural cedar.

For a second example of the two story design, check out the Trixie Natura Two Story Rabbit Hutch with Enclosure. This design also uses a ramp to connect the run area with the hutch on the second story. There is a built in plastic tub that makes removing waste easy, as well as access to your pet from both the front and top of the unit. The unit is constructed from glazed pinewood, which makes it resilient to winter weather and rain.

If you are concerned that your rabbit may try to dig, you should look at a hutch and run where the floor of both is a wire mesh, such as the Ware HD The Townhouse Hutch. It also uses the two story design, but the lower level has a rust resistant wire floor.
